Discover Local Talent: Artists Open Studios with Peninsula Studio Trail – 3 & 4 May 2025

The Mornington Peninsula will come alive this May with the Artists Open Studios event presented by the Peninsula Studio Trail (PST). On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May 2025, art lovers, locals, and visitors alike are invited to take a behind-the-scenes look into the creative spaces of some of the Peninsula’s most talented artists.

This free community event offers a rare and intimate opportunity to connect with local artists, explore diverse styles and mediums, and perhaps even take home a unique piece of artwork.

What Is the Peninsula Studio Trail?

The Peninsula Studio Trail Inc. is a not-for-profit artist-run initiative that supports and promotes professional artists living and working on the Mornington Peninsula. Their biannual Artists Open Studios weekends—one in autumn and another in spring—are designed to bring the community and the creative world together.

By opening their doors to the public, PST artists provide a chance to see where inspiration is born, techniques are honed, and art comes to life. Each participating studio reflects the individuality of its artist—whether it’s a beachside shack, a modern garden studio, or a rustic converted garage.

Why Visit the Artists Open Studios?

If you’re looking for authentic cultural experiences on the Mornington Peninsula, this is a must-see event. Here’s why:

  • Meet the Artists: Engage with the creatives behind the work. Learn what inspires them, see works in progress, and ask questions in an informal, welcoming setting.

  • Explore Hidden Gems: Discover studios and backroads you’d never normally come across. Many artists are located in the hinterland or tucked away in quiet residential streets.

  • Buy Local Art: Find a painting, sculpture, print, or ceramic piece that speaks to you—and buy directly from the maker.

  • Support the Arts: Your visit encourages and supports the thriving artistic community right here on the Peninsula.

Who’s Involved?

Over 25 professional artists will be opening their studios to the public across the Peninsula. Their works span a wide range of styles and media including:

  • Painting (contemporary, abstract, landscape, portrait)

  • Printmaking

  • Ceramics

  • Sculpture

  • Photography

  • Textiles

  • Mixed media

Each artist is a member of Peninsula Studio Trail and has been selected based on their professional practice and artistic contribution to the region.

Make a Day (or Weekend) of It

The Mornington Peninsula is known for its vibrant mix of art, food, wine, and nature. Why not plan your Open Studios tour as a full day out?

Here’s a suggested itinerary to pair art with local experiences:

  • Morning: Start in Mt Martha or Mornington, where you can visit artists working in oils, watercolours, and sculpture. Stop by a local café for brunch or grab a takeaway coffee to enjoy en route.

  • Midday: Head inland toward Red Hill and Main Ridge. Discover artists working in ceramics and mixed media, and while you’re there, enjoy a light lunch and a glass of Pinot at one of the many Peninsula wineries.

  • Afternoon: Wind your way down to Balnarring or Hastings, explore more studios, and finish off the day by the water with a relaxed seaside walk.

If you're coming from Melbourne, it's the perfect excuse to book a night at one of the region’s boutique B&Bs or coastal retreats.

Great for Families

Open Studios isn’t just for seasoned art collectors. It’s a family-friendly experience that welcomes curious minds of all ages. Kids are often fascinated by the tools, materials, and methods on display, and some artists even offer interactive activities or demonstrations.

Introducing young people to art in this hands-on, approachable way helps foster creativity and appreciation for different ways of thinking and expressing ideas.

Accessibility & Tips

  • Studio Access: Not all studios are wheelchair accessible, but the PST website includes this information in their guide so you can plan ahead.

  • Parking: On-street or driveway parking is available at most studios, though carpooling is encouraged in popular areas.

  • Dogs: Some artists welcome pets, others don’t. It’s best to leave furry friends at home unless you’ve confirmed in advance.

Tip: Bring a notepad or use your phone to jot down the names of your favourite artists. Many also offer private commissions or classes throughout the year.

Promoting Community and Creativity

The Artists Open Studios weekend isn’t just about art—it’s about community connection. As a boutique real estate agency here on the Mornington Peninsula, we love seeing locals and visitors alike discover what makes this region so special. The Peninsula Studio Trail is a great example of how creativity and community come together in powerful and inspiring ways.

Whether you’re a long-time local, a weekend visitor, or considering making the move to this beautiful part of Victoria, events like this highlight the culture and lifestyle we’re lucky to have on offer.

Why Art and Real Estate Go Hand in Hand

You might not think art and real estate are connected—but they are. The homes we live in reflect our personalities, values, and aesthetics. Just like a great piece of art, a home tells a story.

Supporting local artists helps celebrate what makes our region unique, and incorporating original artwork into your home brings a sense of soul and local identity. As agents who specialise in lifestyle properties and helping people transition into the next stage of life, we’re big believers in surrounding yourself with things that inspire and bring joy.
