Sorrento Solstice Festival 2026: Firelight, Music and Winter Magic by the Bay

I think winter on the Mornington Peninsula is very underrated.

Everyone talks about summer — the beaches, the wineries, the long lunches, the holidays. And yes, summer is beautiful. But winter has its own charm.

The coastal towns are quieter, the air feels fresh, the cafés are cosy, and there’s something lovely about putting on a warm jacket and heading out for something a little different.

That’s why the Sorrento Solstice Festival 2026 sounds like a perfect winter outing.

Held on Saturday 20 June 2026, this free community festival will take over the Sorrento Foreshore from 2pm to 9pm, celebrating the winter solstice with music, fire, light art, roaming performers, food, market stalls and a whole lot of atmosphere.

This isn’t just another market or local event.

The Sorrento Solstice Festival has that slightly magical winter feel — firelight, music, performers, food, and the beautiful Sorrento foreshore as the backdrop.

It’s the kind of event that makes you want to rug up, take your time, wander around, try something delicious, and stay into the evening as the lights and fire displays begin to glow.

It feels like the sort of thing that could be just as enjoyable for families as it is for couples or groups of friends.

If you’re coming from Mornington, Mount Martha, Mount Eliza or Frankston South, I’d make a day of it.

Head down earlier, have lunch in Sorrento, browse the shops, take a walk if the weather behaves, then wander over to the foreshore for the festival.

Sorrento is always worth the drive, but adding a winter festival makes it feel even more special.

And really, isn’t it nice to have something different to do in winter that doesn’t just involve staying indoors and waiting for spring?

One of the best things about the Mornington Peninsula is that there is always something happening if you know where to look.

It might be a local market, a food and wine event, a coastal walk, live music, a gallery exhibition or a winter festival by the bay.

These are the things that make living here feel special.

For many people who are thinking about downsizing or making a lifestyle change, this is exactly what they’re looking for — not just a smaller home, but a life that feels easier, more connected and more enjoyable.

Planning To Go?

The Sorrento Solstice Festival 2026 is on Saturday 20 June 2026, from 2pm to 9pm, at the Sorrento Foreshore.

Entry is free, but it’s a good idea to plan ahead. Wear warm layers, arrive early if you want to explore Sorrento first, and allow time for parking.

This is one of those events that feels like a lovely excuse to get out of the house, enjoy the fresh winter air and experience the Peninsula in a completely different way.

And really, firelight, music, food and Sorrento by the bay? That sounds like a winter night well spent.
